Long time collaborators Joka B & MrLee have linked up once more, this time on a 6 track EP titled ‘Pickpockets’. The seed was planted after last years collaboration on the track ‘Roll Round’, released on division Bass Digital, the drum and bass track produced by MrLee was a step away from the usual hip hop and grime sounds the two emcees are known for.
‘Pick Pockets’ was intended to be a multi genres canvas, one on which both emcees would be able to illistrate their lyrical prowess. From the high energy D&B opener
‘Still Rolling,’ to heavily grime influenced cuts such as ‘Game of Flows’ and ‘Step Up’. ‘Nightshift’, featuring Croydons’ colossus Ultra_Eko morphs into a more dark atmospheric hip hop sound, one that has become a calling card for MrLees productions.
Overall ‘PickPockets’ comes across as a well thought out project, that ticks alot of boxes. From catchy hooks, to the balance of energy in the tracks. The chemistry between the two emcees is apparent throughout, whilst the 6 track EP is not feature heavy, the two features are heavyweight, along with the already mentioned Ultra_Eko, Houston Texas OG $Doobie$Dinero$ weighs in on bass heavy ‘Game of Flows’ ‘PickPockets’ EP is out now on all streaming platforms. Could there be a Pickpockets 2 on the horizon? As long as there’s pockets to fill.
