It’s safe to assume that viewers everywhere are hoping to be permanently transformed with the release of the much anticipated second installment of the Wicked duology.

The Jon M. Chu-directed version of the cherished Broadway musical, Wicked: For Good, came to an end on Friday, November 21. Starring Cynthia Erivo as the viridescent vigilante Elphaba and Ariana Grande as the seductive and attractive Glinda, the film explores the narrative of what occurs after Elphaba becomes “The Wicked Witch of the West” and Glinda is called “the Good” by her Ozian caregivers.

Along with giving the concluding chapter of the story, Wicked: For Good also comes along with two brand new songs developed specifically for the film — “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble,” sung by Erivo and Grande, respectively, and composed by famed composer Stephen Schwartz. Wicked: For Good — The Soundtrack, a compilation of the movie’s 11 songs, features both of those new songs as well as the remaining Act II songs.

Fans of the musical will be quick to spot the changes in the music made for the film, with some benefitting the new soundtrack, while others don’t quite hit the mark. But the performances throughout both the film and the LP remain as strong as ever, with Erivo and Grande in particular carrying the weight of this impressive soundtrack on their capable shoulders.

Now that both movies are publicly available, it is still unclear which songs from Wicked and Wicked: For Good are the best and which ones fall short. The 22 songs from Wicked and Wicked: For Good are ranked by Billboard below, both in relation to their original versions and in terms of how well they stand alone as stand-alone musical masterpieces. Additionally, be advised that both of the Wicked movies include spoilers.
