But BLACKPINK’s dominance on YouTube is nothing new. Back in July 2018, their hit “DDU-DU DDU-DU” made waves by racking up 36.2 million views within its first 24 hours — becoming the most viewed Korean music video in a single day at that time. It then shattered another record by reaching 100 million views in just 10 days. By January 2019, it had become the most-watched video by a K-pop group, crossing the 620.9 million mark. In that same wave of success, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop group to surpass 20 million subscribers on the platform.
“Kill This Love” followed suit with even greater force, breaking YouTube history in April 2019 by achieving nearly 58 million views in just 24 hours — the biggest music video debut on the platform at the time.
While the group briefly slowed down to focus on individual projects — including JENNIE’s role in The Idol and LISA’s anticipated appearance in season three of White Lotus — they made a powerful comeback this July with the release of their single “Jump.” The track quickly resonated with fans and reached a peak position of No. 28 on the Hot 100.
