Reggie Shelton, known in the music industry as Seed, the Engineer, shared insights on his career journey and the music industry in a recent interview.
Growing up in Fairfeld, California, Seed started making music with his sister at a young age. After teaching himself how to play guitar and a little piano, he began producing and DJing, while also doing live sound for his church. As the church grew, Seed moved to a new location with an upgraded AV system, which inspired him to learn more about advanced technology, theory, and tools required to operate the new system. This led him to attend school and intern at different studios around the Bay Area. He now works at Empire, takes his own clientele, and works at 25th street.
Seed is passionate about music and believes in being a lifelong student of the game. He stays up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in the industry by exchanging ideas with colleagues, attending sessions, and keeping an open mind.
Despite the changes in the industry, Seed believes that the fundamentals remain the same. He strives to balance creative vision with practical constraints and budget limitations by being transparent with clients about what is feasible and executing the plan accordingly.
Seed’s advice for those starting in this feld is to keep an open mind and do their best, even if it doesn’t pay off immediately.
For Seed, the most important aspect of successful teamwork is doing what’s best for the song. As long as everyone is focused on that goal, the best ideas can come from anyone in the room.
Recently, Seed had the opportunity to work with Skywalker Ranch for their upcoming show “She Hulk” and also started recording more orchestras and small ensembles, which he is proud of.
Seed’s journey in the music industry is a testament to his passion and dedication to the craft. He is an inspiration to many aspiring music producers and engineers.
