New York Rapper Gio Basha is shaking up the drill scene with provocative and often controversial lyrics. Recently the Mayor of New York City sought to ban drill music altogether, following a rise in gang activity and violent crime. Rappers such as Maino and Fivio Foreign met with the mayor in hopes of persuading him otherwise. Still, drill rappers continue to dominate the world of hip hop with their own brand of gangster rap. Enter Gio Basha, the man, the myth, the legend. Is he an Albanian mobster? A cryptocurrency tycoon or a member of the illuminati? No seriously, we had a lot of questions regarding the various rumors surrounding Gio Basha and well, we still do… Mr. Basha’s answers come off as elusive at best and our interview was cut short by his lawyer but we did manage to find out some really cool things about Gio and why he started rapping last year.
RV: Hey Gio, can I call you Gio?
GB: Yea.
RV: Great, so let’s get straight to it then, who is Gio Basha behind the music?
GB: Gio Basha.
RV: Hahaha good answer.
GB: I only got good answers for you today.
RV: I see your lawyer is here with you.
GB: My lawyer is like God, he is always with me. Even when you can’t see him, he’s there.
RV: We know you’ve had some legal troubles in the past, is that why you brought your lawyer to this interview today?
GB: Me and this guy grew up together, he went this way and I went that way. He’s a friend before anything, but he also happens to be my lawyer.
RV: Ok cool. So Gio, you’re making big waves in the drill scene, when did you start rapping and what was your inspiration?
GB: I’m inspired by my city.
RV: Interesting. Care to elaborate on that? We’d love to know how your music is influenced by your environment?
GB: No need to elaborate, I’m from Gotham City.
