Nicki Minaj Deletes Instagram After AmericaFest Appearance With Erika Kirk, sparking widespread discussion online and renewed debate about the rapper’s growing involvement in political conversations.
Nicki Minaj has taken a noticeable break from social media following her recent appearance at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest. As of Wednesday (Dec. 24), the 43-year-old rap icon deactivated her Instagram account, leaving visitors with a message that reads, “Sorry, this page isn’t available.” The move came shortly after backlash erupted over her onstage interview with Erika Kirk, the wife of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, during the event in Phoenix on Dec. 21.
At the time of writing, Minaj’s team has not publicly addressed the situation, though it’s worth noting that the artist has temporarily deleted her Instagram before, including a similar disappearance back in October.
Comments That Sparked Backlash
During the AmericaFest conversation, Minaj praised former President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, calling them “amazing role models.” However, the moment quickly turned awkward when she mistakenly referred to Vance as an “assassin” instead of a politician, catching herself almost immediately after the slip.
“Dear young men, you have amazing role models like our handsome, dashing president and you have amazing role models like the assassin JD Vance, our vice president,” Minaj said, before realizing the error.
Erika Kirk quickly stepped in to reassure her, brushing off the mistake and offering words of support. “You’re fine,” she told Minaj. “I love you.”
Support From Allies and Political Figures
Following the interview, Amber Rose came to Minaj’s defense amid claims that her perceived political alignment could distance her from the LGBTQ+ community. Speaking to TMZ, Rose insisted that Minaj hadn’t said anything offensive or exclusionary and pushed back on assumptions about homophobia within conservative circles.
Vice President JD Vance also referenced Minaj’s remarks in a post on X, highlighting a point she made about inclusivity. He praised her for emphasizing that uplifting one group doesn’t require tearing another down, paraphrasing her message about celebrating Black girls’ beauty without diminishing others.
A More Vocal Political Chapter
Minaj’s AmericaFest appearance is part of a broader pattern of increased political engagement. In recent months, she has spoken out about issues beyond U.S. politics, including raising concerns about the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria. That advocacy even led to her participation in a United Nations event earlier in November.
While her Instagram deactivation has fueled speculation, it also underscores a familiar pattern for Minaj — stepping back when online discourse becomes overwhelming. Whether this social media hiatus will be brief or extended remains to be seen, but it has undeniably kept her at the center of cultural and political conversation.
