Cam’ron is certain that a line he uttered while playing Rico in the 2002 movie Paid In Full was the cause of the 2005 shooting in which he was shot in both arms.
The Dipset rapper was shot during a failed carjacking attempt in Washington, D.C., on October 23, 2005, when he was waiting at a red light. A injured Cam, reportedly iced out in $200k worth of diamonds, somehow drove himself to Howard University Hospital in his blue Lamborghini Gallardo, where he received treatment and was allowed to go.
Killa blamed Dame Dash for making him declare, “I will give you some n-ggas from D.C. but not no Harlem n-ggas,” during reshoots of the movie on a new episode of his Talk With Flee podcast that aired on March 4.
According to Cam, “N-ggas from D.C. already do not like New York n-ggas,” therefore he objected to the remark. And even though he made an effort to resist, he was ultimately defeated.
He shrugged and said, “He told me I had to do it, so I did – and four years later, n-ggas shot me in D.C.”
The roles played by Cam’ron, Wood Harris, and Mekhi Phifer were based in part on the real-life experiences of Alpo Martinez, Rich Porter, and Azie “AZ” Faison, three Harlem hustlers.
Dame Dash, who produced the movie and is now working on an official sequel, has already shared a story about the filming that is comparable to Cam’s.
Cam endured a lot, do not you? In a 2022 episode of SHOWTIME Basketball’s All The Smoke, he stated, “He got shot over that role in Washington.” Yes, that was the end of that. He has never shared his tale, but there were moments when I did not really understand what had happened. At one point, I asked him to play a different character, and he said, “Yo bro, I got shot over that role.”
He said, “I do not want to do that scene,” in reference to a particular sequence. I felt somewhat guilty after learning about it, and I did not want to put anyone in that situation ever again. Because this story is taken very seriously. Therefore, it must be done absolutely right.
